The Arctic Circle Assembly is an annual event held every October in Reykjavik, Iceland. With over 2,000 attendees, it is the largest international gathering focused on the Arctic. The Assembly brings together politicians, diplomats, military officials, scientists, business people, indigenous representatives, academics and religious leaders – all working on Arctic issues. Hosted in the Harpa conference centre, the Assembly is balanced between large keynote speeches, smaller breakout sessions focusing on specific subjects, and open-space networking events. Being able to meet people from many different sectors who are all focused on the Arctic is truly an exciting moment. The conversations I had about issues facing the Arctic today were insightful and stimulating, ranging from geopolitics to climate impacts to indigenous voices and analysing our own framings of the subjects we study. I am already looking forward to attending next year’s event!
